Adoptive Families

The Light House has been helping birth parents connect with adoptive families for over 20 years. Adopting a child can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. The process can also be time consuming and frustrating, which is why you deserve an organization like ours where you will receive personal attention from experienced, licensed staff.

Adoption is now very different from many of the common perceptions we have. For example, although there are still many babies who need an adoptive home, when compared to the historical records, overall, fewer babies are available for adoption compared to families who want to adopt. Adoption agencies are seeking families who can love and raise any child in a healthy home environment.

To start the process, simply:

  • Download the Adoption Application
  • Fax the Adoption Application to Dawn Shipman, at 816.361.8333.
  • Once your paperwork has been received, our Adoption Manager, Dawn will contact you.

Cost
Around $12,000 plus legal fees and occasionally medical fees.

For more information on adopting through the Light House, contact Dawn Shipman, Adoption Manager, at 816.361.2233 x 203 or at dawn@lighthouse-inc.org.

The Light House is currently accepting adoptive families, including African-American and other minority families.

We promote the best interests and welfare of each child in recognition of the entitlement of the child to a permanent and stable home. Our agency diligently recruits potential adoptive homes that reflect the ethnic and racial diversity of children in the state for whom adoptive homes are needed. By law, the Court’s placement of a child in an adoptive home will not be delayed or denied on the basis of race, color, or national origin. Potential adoptive homes which cannot meet the financial requirements of our agency are requested to make us aware of their problems to determine eligibility for reduced payment options. This assistance is available regardless of race, color, or national origin.
